ALO are both advocates for people on low incomes and facilitators of the Northern Rivers No Interest Loan Scheme across remote and isolated communities in the Northern Rivers. 

Accordingly, the Aboriginal Loan Officer’s role is multi faceted and includes:

  • Offering NRNILS Loan Interviews to clients living in isolated and remote indigenous communities.
  • Taking and recording NRNILS enquiries;
  • Interviewing and counselling clients and checking NRNILS eligibility;
  • Assisting clients complete NRNILS loan applications, including documentation, and advocating on behalf of the client to the NRNILS assessment committee;
  • Liaising with IMM, NGO’s, and Other Service providers, to offer outreach to isolated and remote indigenous communities across the Northern Rivers;
  • Following up loan defaults;
  • Promoting LNC microfinance products in the community

NRNILS is an integrated program delivered across various community agencies. ALO has an understanding of the other microfinance initiatives provided by LNCI:

  • The IMM refers Clients to community focussed finance options.
  • Individually Case manage clients in financial hardship

  • StepUp provides low interest loans of between $800 - $3000 for essential household items, second hand motor vehicles, and computers.

Budget Counsellor

  • The Budget Counsellor Conduct one to one case management and budget development
  • Conduct educational workshops and develop resource kits.
